Dow Jones editing and business reporting summer internships


The Dow Jones News Fund, Inc. offers summer internships in digital editing, news editing, business reporting and sports editing. The deadline for applying for 2013 is Nov. 1. The program includes free pre-internship training, $1,000 scholarships and stipends for travel to training sites.
Students must take an editing test or business reporting test before Oct. 31. Prof. Lisa Miller can give the tests and send in the results. Contact her at lc.miller@unh.edu if you’re interested.
Students should go to www.newsfund.org, click on the Programs tab, then on College Internships. Each must register as an Intern Applicant to complete the application form. Students may apply for all four internships. There is a single editing application for digital, news and sports editing; the business reporting application is separate.

Boston Globe summer intern program

The deadline for applying to The Boston Globe 2013 summer internship program is Nov. 1. During the12-week program students are put to work covering stories for the Metro, Business, Living/Arts, Health/Science and Sports sections, as well as shooting photos and video, designing pages and graphics for print and online, and copy editing. Association for Women in Sports Media internship


The Association for Women in Sports Media is now accepting applications for its 2013 scholarship and internship program.
The program is open to female undergraduate or graduate students working toward careers in sports media – from newspaper and online writing, to broadcast journalism, to magazine writing, to sports media relations.
Winners will receive up to a $1,000 scholarship and be placed in a paid internship for the summer of 2013. The 2012 interns worked at ESPN, Sports Illustrated, MLB.com, The Denver Post, The Washington Times and USA Swimming.
For the third consecutive year, an AWSM intern will attend the intensive Sports Journalism Institute before beginning her news writing internship.
Finalists will be chosen by a panel of AWSM board members, and winners will be selected jointly by AWSM and its group of employers.
Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31. Finalists will be notified by mid November, and winners determined shortly thereafter.

Boston Globe co-op program


The Boston Globe Co-op Program offers undergraduate students an entry-level opportunity to become familiar with the operations of a daily newspaper.
To be eligible, applicants must be full-time undergraduate students with a minimum of one full semester of classes remaining when the co-op assignment ends. This means no one graduating before July 2013 will be eligible. Students must be able to work 37.5 hours per week, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
 The current co-ops finish Dec. 28, and the upcoming co-op rotation starts Jan. 1, ending June 28.
 The application deadline is Oct. 15, 2012. More information as well as an application form can be accessed at bostonglobe.com/coops.
 Co-op students support the reporters and editors in the different editorial departments, and there is some office work. Preference will be given to students on a Journalism/Communication track or those taking related courses. Designers must have prior design work or internship experience.


Dow Jones internships

Dow Jones offers paid internships at the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch and Dow Jones Newswires. Applications for next summer’s internships are due Nov. 1, 2012.
Many internships are in New York, but internships are also offered at various U.S, bureaus including Chicago, San Francisco and Atlanta, and in international bureaus such as Beijing and Moscow. Internships are available for reporters, multimedia producers, videographers, graphic artists, art directors and photo editors.

Journalism internships in Indianapolis and Arizona


The 2013 Pulliam Journalism Fellowship is accepting applications for next year’s program. Twenty winners nationwide will be chosen for a 10-week internship, which will run from June 3 through Aug. 9. Fellows will be placed at The Indianapolis Star or The Arizona Republic as reporters, photographers, graphic artists and page designers.
To apply, students must complete an application form found at  www.indystar.com/pjf or
 www.pulliam.azcentral.com and send it with the following: a recent photo; five to 15 writing
 samples; three letters of recommendation; and college transcripts.
The deadline is Nov. 1, 2012. The internship pays $650 a week; transportation and housing are
 the intern’s responsibility.
