Summer internships for New Jersey residents
The New Jersey Press Foundation is accepting applications for its 2013 Summer Internship Program. The internship is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors attending New Jersey colleges and to New Jersey residents attending other U.S. colleges. Telegraph seeks entertainment/arts editor
The
Telegraph seeks an innovative and dynamic Entertainment/Arts Editor who will
make The Telegraph the epicenter of entertainment and arts news in greater
Nashua and beyond. This person will be expected to develop and implement an
aggressive, digital-first approach to The Telegraph's entertainment news
products. This will include, but not be limited to: developing multi-media and
interactive content directed at a variety of audiences; partnering with arts and
entertainment groups in the area to develop long-term relationships; creating
and managing special Telegraph entertainment events; editing Encore, the
Telegraph's weekly entertainment magazine; planning content for the Sunday
Magazine section of the Sunday paper; and constructing and administering a
comprehensive integrated social media strategy.
The Entertainment/Arts Editor will work closely with other newsroom editors on a daily basis to ensure tight integration with the Telegraph's overall news strategy, and to maximize efforts to promote arts and entertainment initiatives in print and online.
The successful candidate will have strong writing, editing and organizational skills and someone who can demonstrate to the ability to efficiently produce and manage a consistent flow of content for multiple news platforms. This person will also have a strong and proven knowledge of social networking tools such as Twitter, Facebook, Storify, Pinterest, Mashable, Cover it Live, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. In additional skills include the ability to shoot and edit video, conduct online chats and organize and conduct community news events.

UNH journalism major on political beat with Washington Post swing state project

Story of a UNH journalism major: From Ethiopia to New Hampshire and back again
Merhawi Wells-Bogue, a senior English/Journalism major, doesn't lack for a story to tell. He spent this summer reporting on the streets of Mekelle, Ethiopia, notebook - and video camera, audio recorders, and more - in hand. He was there to document the difficult lives of street children. A Social Debate: Obama-Romney 2012

Come join The New Hampshire, Patch.com and members of the UNH community for a pre-debate conversation about how social media is changing the way campaigns are run by candidates and covered by journalists. Then settle in to watch Obama and Romney in their second debate of the campaign. Guests taking part in the pre-debate discussion, which gets underway at 8pm, include representatives of the Romney and Obama campaigns, Chad Graff, Managing Editor of The New Hampshire, Marc Fortier and Dan Tuohy, journalists with Patch.com in New Hampshire, Meg Heckman, former online editor of The Concord Monitor, and Tom Haines, journalism professor at UNH. The event starts with discussion at 8pm, with the debate airing at 9. It is co-sponsored by TNH and Patch in coordination with the UNH Journalism Program.

Dow Jones editing and business reporting summer internships
The Dow Jones News Fund, Inc. offers summer internships in
digital editing, news editing, business reporting and sports editing. The
deadline for applying for 2013 is Nov. 1. The program includes free
pre-internship training, $1,000 scholarships and stipends for travel to training sites.
Students must take an editing test or business reporting
test before Oct. 31. Prof. Lisa Miller can give the tests and send in the

an Intern Applicant to complete the application form. Students may apply for

Boston Globe summer intern program
The deadline for applying to The Boston Globe 2013 summer internship program is Nov. 1. During the12-week program students are put to work covering stories for the Metro, Business, Living/Arts, Health/Science and Sports sections, as well as shooting photos and video, designing pages and graphics for print and online, and copy editing. Association for Women in Sports Media internship
The Association for Women in Sports
Media is now accepting applications for its 2013 scholarship and internship
program.
The program is open to female
undergraduate or graduate students working toward careers in sports media –
from newspaper and online writing, to broadcast journalism, to magazine
writing, to sports media relations.
Winners will receive up to a $1,000
scholarship and be placed in a paid internship for the summer of 2013. The 2012
interns worked at ESPN, Sports Illustrated, MLB.com, The Denver Post, The
Washington Times and USA Swimming.
For the third consecutive year, an AWSM
intern will attend the intensive Sports Journalism Institute before beginning
her news writing internship.
Finalists will be chosen by a panel of AWSM board members, and winners will be
selected jointly by AWSM and its group of employers.
Applications will be accepted through
Oct. 31. Finalists will be notified by mid November, and winners determined
shortly thereafter.
