More UNH multimedia reporting about primitive technology

Internships and fellowships

Sports writing internship

PinstripesPlus Magazine, pinstripesplus.com, part of the Scout.com network and affiliated with Fox Sports, is seeking interns to cover the minor league baseball team in Manchester, the Fisher Cats, for a Blue Jays Web site. The season starts in April and runs through Labor Day weekend, but the publisher, Patrick Teale, will consider taking an intern just for the summer semester if anyone is interested. The internship will run about 10 hours a week.

He’s looking for interns who can help cover the team, conduct interviews and write player feature articles.

New local radio news internship

Dow Jones Newspaper Fund summer editing and reporting internships

The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund offers internships in business reporting, multimedia editing, news editing and sports editing.

The internships are open to college juniors, seniors and graduate students. The benefits include pre-internship training, $1,000 scholarships and travel expenses during training.

Application deadline is Nov. 1, 2011.

2021 Pulliam Journalism Fellowship Program

The 2012 Pulliam Journalism Fellowship Program is accepting applications for next year’s program. Twenty winners nationwide will be chosen for the 10-week internship, running from June 4 to Aug. 10, at the Indianapolis Star or Arizona Republic.

The fellowship program is open to college juniors, seniors and graduate students. Fellows will work as reporters, photographers or graphic artists. The pay is $650 a week. Applicants should have strong reporting and writing skills, and the strongest applicants often have worked in prior internships at daily or weekly newspapers, as well as at college newspapers.

The 2012 Boston Globe Summer Internship Program

The Boston Globe is taking applications for its summer internship program. The program runs for 12 weeks, and interns work in sports, living/arts and business. There are also intern positions in the photography and graphics departments, and on the copy desk. The internships are open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or who will graduate in May or June, as well as to journalism graduate school students who have not had professional experience as a newspaper reporter.

Summer interns work as full-time employees and are paid a weekly wage. An intern supervisor serves as writing coach, and there are weekly meetings with editors and staff members on a range of topics.

Internship program for young journalists interested in specializing in health reporting

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation sponsors summer internships at 16 news organizations around the country for young journalists interested in reporting on health issues. The internship program provides a week-long briefing on health issues and health reporting in Washington, D.C. Interns then work for 10 weeks at their news organization. Interns receive a 12-week stipend and travel expenses.

Association for Women in Sports Media scholarship/internship program

The Association for Women in Sports Media is accepting applications for the 2012 scholarship/internship program. The program is open to female undergraduate and graduate students as well as 2012 graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in sports media.

The association places students in paid internships at places including Sports Illustrated, ESPN and a variety of the nation’s top daily newspapers. AWSM also provides internship opportunities for students interested in careers in sports media relations.

The top applicant in each of the writing, broadcast, editing and media relations categories will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Other students selected for internships will receive a $500 scholarship.
