UNH journalism major on political beat with Washington Post swing state project

Jake DeSchuiteneer, a Manchester, NH native and a UNH journalism student, has been working overtime this semester as part of a team of 12 college journalists in swing states curating political coverage and creating original content for "The 12," a Tumblr-based reporting project by The Washington Post. Story of a UNH journalism major: From Ethiopia to New Hampshire and back again

Merhawi Wells-Bogue, a senior English/Journalism major, doesn't lack for a story to tell. He spent this summer reporting on the streets of Mekelle, Ethiopia, notebook - and video camera, audio recorders, and more - in hand. He was there to document the difficult lives of street children. A Social Debate: Obama-Romney 2012

Come join The New Hampshire, Patch.com and members of the UNH community for a pre-debate conversation about how social media is changing the way campaigns are run by candidates and covered by journalists. Then settle in to watch Obama and Romney in their second debate of the campaign. Guests taking part in the pre-debate discussion, which gets underway at 8pm, include representatives of the Romney and Obama campaigns, Chad Graff, Managing Editor of The New Hampshire, Marc Fortier and Dan Tuohy, journalists with Patch.com in New Hampshire, Meg Heckman, former online editor of The Concord Monitor, and Tom Haines, journalism professor at UNH. The event starts with discussion at 8pm, with the debate airing at 9. It is co-sponsored by TNH and Patch in coordination with the UNH Journalism Program.
